Scottsdale drivers may be able to reduce the cost of owning and charging an electric vehicle through utility rebates, smart-charging rewards, time-of-use electricity plans, and state benefits. However, available incentives depend on your electric utility, charger model, participation requirements, purchase date, and installation date. One important note here: the federal residential EV charger tax credit expired for equipment placed in service after June 30, 2026.
Here is a closer look at the incentives Scottsdale homeowners should investigate before buying and installing a home charging station.
APS EV Charger Rebates and Savings
Most Scottsdale homes receive electricity from Arizona Public Service. APS customers can shop for Level 2 charging equipment through the APS Marketplace, which offers models from manufacturers such as ChargePoint, Emporia, and Wallbox. Some options include APS EV charge rebates of up to $250.
An APS EV charger rebate or marketplace discount can reduce the equipment expense, but it does not cover the electrician’s labor, permits, new wiring, conduit, or electrical-panel work. You’ll want to get an installation estimate from a qualified EV charger installer.
Earn Up to $85 Through APS SmartCharge
APS also offers SmartCharge, which currently has two participation options. Customers can receive a $25 enrollment bill credit and a $5 monthly participation credit, adding up to $85 during the first 12 months.
With EV Data Rewards, you share charging information with APS but retain control over your charging schedules. The EV Charging Assistant Rewards option allows APS to make limited adjustments to the charging schedule or speed during periods of high electricity demand or when cleaner energy is more plentiful.
Before enrolling, review the current eligibility list and participation terms. Some programs require a compatible vehicle rather than a particular charger, while others require a qualifying Wi-Fi-connected Level 2 station.
APS Time-of-Use Rates
APS time-of-use plans charge different rates based on when electricity is consumed. Shifting EV charging away from higher-cost weekday periods can lower the cost of replenishing the battery.
APS encourages EV drivers on applicable plans to avoid charging during the weekday on-peak window and instead charge overnight or during designated daytime periods when demand is lower or solar generation is abundant. Exact hours and prices vary by rate plan, so homeowners should compare plans based on their entire household’s electricity use, not EV charging alone.
A smart charger can make time-of-use savings easier by automatically beginning a charging session at a preset hour. Many EVs also allow drivers to schedule charging through the vehicle’s dashboard or mobile app.
SRP Charger Rebates and Rewards
Some Scottsdale addresses are served by Salt River Project rather than APS. SRP residential electric customers may save up to $250 when purchasing an eligible charger through the SRP Marketplace. Customers who purchase qualifying equipment elsewhere may also be able to submit a rebate application, subject to the program’s eligibility rules and deadlines.
SRP also offers its EV Smart Charge program. Customers who connect an eligible vehicle or charger can receive a $50 sign-up bill credit and may qualify for an additional $50 annual credit. The program encourages charging during super off-peak and off-peak periods when electricity is generally more affordable, and demand on the grid is lower.
Arizona EV Incentives and Benefits
Arizona does not currently offer a broad statewide rebate that reimburses every homeowner for installing a Level 2 charger. Current Arizona EV incentives include an exemption from annual emissions testing for electric vehicles registered in the state. This can eliminate an ownership requirement that applies to many gasoline-powered vehicles in the Phoenix metro areas.
The state’s reduced alternative-fuel vehicle license tax applies only to qualifying vehicles purchased by December 31, 2022. EVs purchased after that date do not receive the older reduced-tax treatment.
The Federal Home Charger Credit Has Expired
The Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit previously allowed qualifying homeowners to claim 30% of eligible charger and installation costs, up to $1,000 per charging port. Eligibility was restricted to primary residences in qualifying low-income or non-urban census tracts, and it has now expired. Residential charging equipment placed in service after June 30, 2026 is not eligible for the credit.
Check Incentives Before Scheduling Installation
