Why should I have this done 1-2 times per year?

The answer is simple. It is needed maintenance that will save you money on energy costs, allow for more available hot water usage and increase the longevity of your unit’s life. In addition, when flushing the water heater, the plumber should inspect the water heater unit in its entirety to make sure there aren’t other parts needing maintenance or replacing. The Anode Rod, which is what prevents the tank of the water heater from rapidly corroding, is an important feature to have inspected during this water heater flush maintenance.

What does draining or flushing my water heater accomplish?

Throughout the year, the water flowing through your water heater carries lime, calcium, dirt, gravel and other sediment along its path. This sediment builds-up in the bottom of your water heater and can drift into recirculation lines (faucets, bathtubs, shower valves) or jam open check valves and then eventually burn out the pump. If sediment build up is continually ignored, you are risking the cost of major repairs and possible complete system failure. (Flooding usually accompanies system failure)
